Brief Description
The Wits School of Education seeks to appoint a suitable candidate at Lecturer /Senior Lecturer level in Foundation Studies to contribute to the School’s initial teacher education and postgraduate programmes, research and community engagement activities.
Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate must meet the following criteria to be appointed:
• Lecturer:
PhD with a focus in either Childhood Studies or Foundation Phase. Expertise in the delivery of a Foundation Phase Life Skills programme will be an advantage;
Ability to contribute to curriculum innovation and design and in the implementation of new courses.
Knowledge, skills, and expertise to teach in different delivery modes to ensure quality teaching, learning practices, and experiences.
Experience in teaching in Foundation Phase and or Early Childhood school contexts will be an advantage;
Experience in teaching in Higher Education;
Supervision of undergraduate students on Teaching Experience.
Evidence of research ability or potential (a publication record would be an advantage);
Senior Lecturer:
PhD with a focus in either Early Childhood Development or Foundation Phase. Expertise in the delivery of a Foundation Phase Life Skills programme will be an advantage;
Experience in teaching in Foundation Phase or Early Childhood contexts at school level or higher education level would be an advantage;
Ability to take a leading role in curriculum innovation and design and implementation of courses in Foundation Studies and/or Childhood Studies;
A track record of competent teaching in the disciplinary area, preferably Childhood Studies or Life Skills Knowledge, skills, and expertise to teach in different delivery modes to ensure quality teaching, learning practices, and experiences.
Supervision of undergraduate students on Teaching Experience;
An independent research profile and proven publication record;
Capacity to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students at tertiary level;
Preferably a sustained record of research supervision (in Foundation Studies would be an advantage); ;
Evidence of ability to contribute to the work of the School and the Foundation Studies
