Position Name Senior Manager Commercial

External: Customers, all Sports federations, rights holders, investment partners

Purpose of the Position
- To assist the CEO in leveraging commercial projects driven out of SuperSport; Current projects include the investments in School Sports Live and BetKing
- Evaluate any future commercial opportunities for SuperSport – both content opportunities and potential investment opportunities
- Evaluate opportunities to drive a local content strategy for SuperSport – This would involve analysing the potential impact of acquiring rights to further local football leagues; embracing technology to reduce production costs
- To negotiate and conclude Sports broadcasting rights
- Responsible for the implementation and execution of Sports broadcasting rights contracts
Key Performance Objectives
Strategy Execution
- Work closely with the SuperSport CEO, Legal, Finance and Multichoice Research teams to continuously analyse and proactively respond to the competitive environment
- Take responsibility for the renewal and acquisition of sporting rights
- Build solid relationships with local and international sporting federations
Operational Delivery
- Deliver required focus on ROA investments and ensure those properties are leveraged efficiently
- Keep informed of developments within the field of sports broadcasting rights
- Work closely with and assist the DStv Media Sales team in obtaining the company’s commercial objectives
- Work closely with and support the MultiChoice marketing team (cross business integration)
- Successfully support online and social media strategy
- Keep informed of developments within the field of sports broadcasting rights
- Work closely with the Head of Content and Head of Programming in ensuring that the right content is acquired in line with set business objectives
- Work closely with the Head of Programming to ensure correct scheduling of acquired content
Stakeholder Management
- Build effective relationships with key stakeholders within the sporting community to promote the SuperSport brand
- Engage with stakeholders and sports federations regarding sport broadcasting rights
- Build effective relationships within the broader Broadcasting community and with content rights owners
People Management
- Develop a high performing team by embedding formal performance development and informal coaching
- Encourage frequent knowledge-sharing between team members
- Determine and analyze development needs for the team and ensure that identified training requirements are budgeted for and executed
- Create effective workforce and recruitment demand plans to ensure that current and future business requirements are met
- When required, initiate disciplinary processes for team members, resolve grievances raised by team members and escalate only if required
- Address poor performance of any team member through the formal Performance Improvement Programme and ensure that continued poor performance is appropriately dealt with
- Motivate team members and ensure that their efforts are recognized
- Provide regular constructive feedback on the performance of individual team members
Qualifications
- Ideally a Post Graduate degree in Commerce/Business Management/Sports Management/Related FieldHowever, it’s more important is to find a person with the right attitude, commitment and passion for being a team player
Ideal Experience
- A minimum of 6-8 years’ knowledge and experience in the sports/broadcasting/entertainment industries
- A minimum of 8-10 years’ working experience
- Solid International sports industry networks
- A good understanding of and experience in interaction with sporting federations
- Experience in negotiating and concluding sponsorship agreements
- Proven experience in handling broadcast rights negotiations and concluding broadcast rights agreements
