All learner nurses entering the nursing programme will require a pass with a D (Matriculation before 2008) or Level 4 (Matriculation from 2008) aggregate in line with the WCPA bursary requirements at the Grade 12 Level (FET certificate or Grade 12 (Matric) certificate with an APS score of minimum 30 and permission as indicated on the Grade 12 certificate to register for a Bachelor degree to register for the B Tech: Nursing Science degree. Specific subjects required and achievement levels are:English (4);
Life Sciences (4) OR Physical Sciences (4);
Mathematics (4) OR Mathematics Literacy (5).
In addition to the above requirements, you will need to provide proof of your first completed Hepatitis B immunisation schedule, SANC related indemnity and other forms, and proof of payment.

Work integrated learning (WIL) is compulsory. The purpose of creating experiential learning opportunities is to prepare the learner nurse to function effectively and competently in this field of study and to be skilled in ethical decision-making and moral reasoning by the end of the programme. WIL in the graduate programme includes clinical nursing practice activities and Skills lab activities, as well as placement in healthcare facilities. The WIL component constitutes 50% of the programme.
WIL (also called experiential learning, work-based learning or co-operative learning) focuses on the application of academic learning in a world-of-work context. The focus of experiential learning is for learner nurses to apply and develop their knowledge and skills in a work place environment. Work place practice and skills development will contribute to improved chances of employability and will assist in developing personal skills.
