Re-Advertising Principal Librarian Vacancy; Learning Resources Management At Rhodes University

In terms of Immigration Legislation (Act No. 13 of 2002 & Regulations), international staff members (non-SA citizens) have to comply with the provisions of the Act. This therefore means that the period of employment in respect of non-RSA citizens will be guided by the validity period of the work permit. In line with legislation governing employment of foreign nationals, employment contracts will be offered on the basis that a development plan would be implemented for the transfer of skills to a South African resident. The onus is on candidates to ensure that they are in possession of a valid work permit before the commencement of employment at the University, failing which the employment with Rhodes University will be terminated.
Purpose:
The position identifies, negotiates for, and promotes the development, discoverability, visibility and accessibility of the Rhodes University Library’s subscribed to, and free information resources. In addition, this position is responsible for the optimal expenditure of the Information Resources budget.
As part of the Library Management team, the Principal Librarian: Learning Resources Management manages and develops the University’s collections including the provision of training, support, guidance and advocacy.
To contribute to development and innovation in technical services in the Rhodes University Library Services.
Requirements:
Education And Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science (NQF level 8) OR a 3-year Degree, plus a 1-year Post-Graduate Library Diploma (NQF level 8) plus approximately 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: –
- Having worked in a computerised academic and/or research library
- At least 4 years’ previous experience in a collection development and management role where the experience includes knowledge of licencing and transformative agreements
- Previous exposure to IT applications and electronic library & information tools
- At least 3 years’ supervision experience
